Moreton Series, Wins for Raynor & Hickinbottom!

Laura Raynor (Westbury Wheelers) won the opening round of the Moreton Women’s series, sprinting clear and celebrating in style. On a perfect spring evening a disappointing field of just 9 women signed on for the first of 6 dedicated races.
Claire Parkin (Elite Velo) drove the race around the flat 3 mile circuit but lacked the acceleration needed in the final. Raynor, 28, from Maiden Bradley, was as disappointed with the poor turnout as the organisers but was delighted to win, whooping loudly as she crossed the line. Emily Higston (Purbeck Peloton) won the tight sprint for second and seemed equally pleased.
Parkin & Lizzie Campbell (Bournemouth Jubilee Wh) jumped straight into the Open race, mixing it with the men, plucky Parkin was one of three riders to come down after a touch of wheels but all walked away.

In the open race, Shaun Hickinbottom (Success cycling) visiting from Kidderminster, surprised the favourites to take the win in the Bournemouth Cyclyeworks sponsored event. Hickinbottom was part of a hard working Green group, including teammate James Jenkins, that started a lap ahead and managed to stay clear of the Reds.
Holding a lead of just 40 seconds at the bell, the Success cycling pair pulled away on the last lap as the scratch group had them in sight.
