Inter-Club Hill Climb,West is Best!

Mud,Sweat n’ Gears & CC Weymouth turned the 2015 inter-club hill climb series into a two horse race after dominating the opening round on the Ridgeway climb north of Weymouth. Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers cling to a faint hope after claiming 3 of the top 4 places but Poole Wheelers are already out of it with just one rider making the short trip along the coast.

The series rewards those that ride, with all scoring points for their club and the two West Dorset outfits packed the 42 strong field. The two, supposedly bigger, better eastern clubs shown up by their smaller neighbour’s in the west.

Phil Cole (MSG) took the individual honours clocking, 2.26.61 for the 1 kilometre climb across Bincombe Down. Simon MaClaughlin (BJW) pulled his foot out of his cleat at the start, perhaps costing him the second he needed, only he knows if it cost him more? Tom Stocker & Bob Richardson (BJW) had ridden the 35plus miles out to the event and kept their clubs faint hopes alive with 3rd & 4th place. The never steep, Ridgeway climb was once the main road into Weymouth but the new road, built for the Olympics, has made it redundant, walkers, cyclists and the occasional farm vehicle now the only traffic. The series continues next week with the short, steep climb of Creech Hill in the Purbecks
