Seven of us at Bear Cross, on the Winter solstice, why not six or eight? Even numbers add symmetry to the bunch, it’s just prettier. Where do you put the spare body? Alone at the back, never quite part of the conversation, out of the wind billy no-mates. A peal of bells calls the faithful at Wimborne Minster as our untidy group head along the Cowgrove to White Mill, Shapwick, Tarrant Crawford & Langton Long. Blandford Forum is quiet and we are soon labouring over to Winterborne Stickland in the keen south westerly. The three mile, big ring climb of Bulbarrow hill from Hedge End provides fifteen controlled minutes of sweetspot, no cock-measuring before twelfth night, that should keep the coach happy! Fast down to Ansty cross and on to Coombe Bottom and Milton Abbas. A snapped chain(link remover added to Christmas list) at the bottom of the village delayed the pain at the top of the village but the hard work is rewarded with the wind assisted blast down to Winterborne Whitechurch. Winterborne Kingston, Winterborne Muston, Winterborne Tomson and Anderson are also quickly behind us. Across the A31 at Red Post to East Bloxworth, Whitefield and nearly Winterborne Zelston, there are more but five Winterbornes is enough for today! Lytchett Matravers, Corfe Mullen and back to Bear Cross, some symmetry at last. 4Hrs 01m (including mechanical)
