Local Riders,Local Races!

22/09/12
Steve Pink (CC Weymouth) writes.......Saturday's Club 10 was the final TT of CC Weymouth's regular season. There is of course this Sunday's event to come where we kick off the interclub hillclimb series at Portland but this was the last chance to wrestle a course best out of the P451. Next week will be less about "aero" and more about pain!

Charlie Lawson, who has been somewhat absent over the last few weeks, turned up to take the win in what proved to be surprisingly slow conditions. A very impressive debut from Calum Croft saw him take 2nd place just ahead of myself (I blame my age however Calum blamed a hangover for not being further ahead).

We also welcomed visitors Brian Sands and Ali Ford and a warm welcome for young Matthew Child who suffered several mechanical issues on his first ever TT (well done for finishing).

If I hadn't mentioned it yet the Portland Hill Climb kicks off at 9:00 this Sunday morning. Please arrive by 8:40 as this event gets quite busy and the timekeeper will have lots of work to do. If you haven't done a hill climb yet this is a great race with a much bigger "event" feel to it than our normal club TTs. Give it a try, it is only 5-8 minutes of pain and every member who races will earn us some points that will help us try and win the team trophy for the 3rd year running.

15 September 2012, CC Weymouth Club 10 P451

This weekend saw the penultimate club 10 of CC Weymouth's calendar. As the summer draws to a close and thoughts turn to upcoming hill climb series (which we will be trying to win for the third year in a row) a handful of riders turned up to see if some late season form could produce a new course best, club record or even course record.
The course record is exactly what Adam Topham of High Wycombe was aiming for. Having missed the record by seconds earlier in the year Adam, who has just all but wrapped up the National BBAR (Best British All Rounder) title, was in great form and feeling confident. Unfortunately he didn't count on the wasp that decided to lodge itself in Adam's helmet and sting him behind the ear, I am not sure how much time you lose trying to remove your helmet at 30mph+ in the middle of a TT but I am sure he would have been close to the record without such distraction. Adam still took a comfortable win despite the unwanted passenger.
Poole Wheeler's Andy Buddle who himself has been having a great year took second place and Weymouths own Greg Parker finished third. Greg has been having a fantastic year and had been feeling confident of challenging Paddy Dunn's club record but his crash two weeks ago is probably still lingering in the legs and the record will have to wait until next year for Greg. A mention also for David Butt who shaved a few seconds off of his PB with 23:50 and a big thankyou to Chairman Stuart Carrington and his daughter who took up the timekeeping duties for the day.
