...a3crg 10 "Butser Buster" Result

Wednesday was Event 13 & the last event in the ...a3crg summer series, was it going to be lucky? Dave Collarard- Berry Reports.... Previous events this summer have seen some very successful events with the men's 15 record being broken twice, a new women's 15 record, a new men's team 15 record & a host of VTTA age records. Even when ...a3crg held a Saturday afternoon 30 mile time trial the a3crg Femmes broke the National Team record. So would there be a lucky thirteen, no!!! The only luck was that the Buriton Ten was able to be held, the wind died down, well a little, the rain held off at the start, but caught up with the riders at the turn with the odd shower. The riders start the Buriton course at the southerly end of the Petersfield (Hants) By-Pass making their way down to West Liss to the turn at five miles. The finish is at the bottom of Butser Hill, at nine miles to go most rider are on for a "PB" but that last mile there is a bit of a climb. The majority of the riders were getting to the turn within ten minutes, however, on the return leg riders were faced with a strong headwind & the reality of their fast ride to the turn struck home as they struggled to the timekeepers.

Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) who tends to race all year came out on top in the men's event only eleven seconds down on his previous weeks time while other "regular" riders were dropping a whole minute. In the Women's event it was again junior rider Caitlin Peters (Storey Racing) ruling the roust winning by 32 seconds with the grim August weather not fazing her at all.

It was in truth a bit of a "grim night" to finish a successful season, but as the riders left Buriton Village Hall the wind had died down & there was a clear sky & the only sound you could was an owl calling, what a difference an hour or two makes.
