Horton Makes it Five! Moreton Race Series, Report/Result

James Horton (VC St Raphael/Waites Contracts) took yet another sprint win at the Bournemouth Cycleworks Moreton Race series on a perfect summer evening in Dorset. You can hear Horton as he races to the line, his effort manifested as a kind of straining, guttural, final breath but he is no less effective because of that, it was his 5th win of the series. Matt Norris (Primera-Teamjobs) and last weeks winner Phil Cole (Bournemouth Cycleworks Vitec Fire Ford Civil) disputed the minor placings but it was all about Horton really.
Before Horton it was Tony Revel (Bournemouth Cycleworks Vitec Fire Ford Civil) making all the moves after the scratch group had made an early catch. Again and again Revell attacked, finally getting away at the bell. The strong mountain biker held the bunch off till the line was in sight but like the rest of us, could hear Horton coming and his endeavour forgotten. Two laps out an oncoming car and horsebox forced the bunch to squeeze, the resulting touch of wheels leaving Stephen Morphew (Poole Wheelers) needing first aid.
Rachel Hackman (RN&RMCA) won the womens race beating Steph Lewars to the line. Hackman took time off from a Royal Navy training camp she is running at Yeovilton, two climbs of Cheddar gorge earlier in the day doing nothing to blunt her sprint. The Bournemouth Cycleworks Moreton Race Series continues with round 9 next Thursday 11th July.
