New Forest CC held the second leg of the Hilly series on Tuesday night on the demanding P341 Thorny Hill course, writes Andrew Hanley........ Looping round Burley from Bransgore before concluding at the top of Braggers Lane, the conditions were challenging and only a few hardy riders were prepared to brace themselves for the 40mph gusty winds. Lyndon Thompson (24:20) cemented his place at the top of the leader board by holding off Steward Ward (24:22) by the smallest of margins. As both riders hit the bottom of Braggers Lane climb, Stewart held an 8 second advantage of Lyndon, but fatigue set in in after Stewart’s Tour of Cambridge exploits and Lyndon overturned the deficit into a slender lead. Both riders were a minute clear of third place man, Stuart Peckham in 25:23. Lyndon claimed the overall aggregate win in 49:35 ahead of Stewart Ward in 51:19, who was rewarded for his efforts by displacing Stuart Peckham into third overall in 51:21. Peckham was only one second behind Ward going up Braggers Lane, which shows that every marginal gain and second counts.
