Pop up racing is the future, promoted on social media, £5 pay- on- the- line, a full field, cash prize fund, even we were there, who needs open's? Bad weather? cancel the event, stay in bed,(quite a few did)*, no hoops to jump through, make it up as you go along, well nearly, police notification for the event was posted a few months back but the rest was word of mouth. The Poole wheelers club 10 on the Ski Slope P415 course at Upton attracted 54 entrants more than double the field for the Tornado CRT Open 10 the previous day. Did one race affect the other, possibly yes, probably not. The rural lanes around Bransgore on the edge of the New Forest are training roads, the dual carriageway, Upton bypass on the northern tip of Poole harbour is for racing in the speed-is-king world of Time Trialling.
The trend in the south is for club racing, many will never ride an open time trial, competition at club level is all they want.... and of course speed, the downhill Ski Slope P415 course obliges, the public get what the public want.
