New Forest CC Club 10,18/04/17, Report/Results

A hat trick for Lockyer as Dowling hold on in Div 2, Andrew Hanley writes.......
Boltons Bench played host for round three of the New Forest Cycle Club’s 10 series. The popular P164 course runs from Boltons Bench towards Beaulieu before heading to Ipley Crossroads and back towards Beaulieu Road Station. Twenty nine riders participated in the event held on a stunning spring evening with a gentle North Easterly breeze to check the rider’s progress to the turn. Division leader, Paul Lockyer made it a hat trick of wins in his debut season with NFCC to record a stunning time of 21:15, some forty seconds off the course record. Paul built a 35 second lead at the first intermediate check point, and continued to build his advantage over second placed rider Antony Green to a minute and twenty seconds at the end. Antony was pleased to have edged out Ben Boardman into third, who in turn had to battle with James Bannister to hold onto the last podium position. James tracked Ben down over the last climb, clawing into a 50 second deficit, James’s efforts were not rewarded on the occasion as Ben clung on by a mere 3 seconds. “I burnt all my matches today, I had nothing left at the end” an exhausted James commented afterwards.
The battle for Division 2 honours were just as close and it was Bob Dowling who was able to maintain his fine start to the season by holding off Jon Gregory by five seconds in 25:59 and 26:04 respectively. Phil Harries recorded a very respectable time of 26:22 to make up the top three. “Wow, that was close” Bob remarked afterwards, “I’ll be looking over my shoulder from now on!”
Oliver Moody recorded his first win of the year in division three in 29:17 ahead of Catherine Pascoe and Isabelle Parkes in 30.40 and 31.04 respectively. Paul Ashley representing Fareham Wheelers was the fasted private rider in 22:04. Paul commented that “Lockyer (Paul) stands a real chance of the course record in the right conditions, that was an amazing ride from him tonight”
