BC South Inter-Regional Youth Championships Selection Criteria

BC South Region – Inter-Regional Championships 2017: Rider Selection Criteria

The following dates have been agreed for each of the Inter-Regional Youth Championships:

• The 2016 School Games will incorporate the Inter-Regional Road Championships from 1-3 September at Loughborough. There will be a wide-range of road-based events including a criterium, time trial, team time trial and road race. (Team Manager: Graham Hurst; Team Coach: Felix Young).

• The Inter-Regional Mountain Bike XC Championships will take place 16-17 September at …TBC… There will be a wide-range of off road events including a skills based competition and a full Cross-Country race. (Team Manager: Stephen Saunders; Team Coach: Richard Cromie).

• The Inter-Regional Track Championships will be held 23-24 September at …TBC... The event will be contested over the 9 World Championship events: Sprint; Keirin; Time Trial; Scratch; Points; Pursuit; Madison; Team Sprint and Team Pursuit. (Team Manager: Peter Georgi; Team Coach: Dan Coast)

All three teams can consist of up to 4 boys & 4 girls who were born between 2001 and 2004, with each event having one boy and one girl named as a non-travelling reserve.

The Inter-Regional Youth Championships are national level events and offer riders the chance to experience multi day events in a team environment with the best riders in the country. Riders wishing to be considered should be capable of competing in multi day events and at national standard events.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Given the national nature of the competition, National Series races, National Championships and Regional Series will form the basis of selection events. However, we do understand that some riders may not gain entry to the respective National Series if they have insufficient points. In that case large regional races will be key selection events.
Each rider will be assessed individually for their specific races using the table below with the overall aim of creating a balanced team to contest the Inter-regional events.

As stated, we understand that not everyone will be able to get into National Series races at the start of the season. It is therefore expected that riders should enter: the Castle Combe Easter Classic and the Winchester Cycle Festival (incorporating the U16 boys’ and U16 girls’ Circuit Race Championships) for Road; the Youth Omnium Series for Track; and the Southern XC races for MTB XC. In addition to individual assessment the Selection Panel will also have full access to all race results and will judge performances against other riders who have registered for selection and who have competed in the same local events.

Team selection will be confirmed with riders, parents and coaches no later than one month before each individual Inter-Regional event. Please note that there will be some financial contribution from each rider selected to represent the Region in each discipline.

In addition to the Youth Road Championships (UK School Games) there will also be another opportunity for Road team selection at the Prudential Ride London Youth Grand Prix (Friday 28 July, Lee Valley VeloPark, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park). The event programme consists of a boys’ and girls’ race for Youth A category riders and a boys’ and girls’ race for Youth B category riders (each team consists of 4 riders, so a total of 16 for the South Region). In order to retain the key element of youth development any rider selected for the UK School Games (except for the non-travelling reserve) will not be eligible to be considered for Prudential Ride London selection. This will give other riders the opportunity to experience the atmosphere and competition at Inter-Regional level.

TRAINING DAYS

During the 2017 season there will also be opportunities for attendance at additional sessions such as Regional School of Racing (RSR) and team training days (South Days), a list will be advertised separately.
