Wessex RC 24,Dighton Smashes Course Record!

Gary Dighton (Primera-sports.com) smashed the course record on his way to winning the Wessex Road Club hilly 24 at Wimborne. Adam Tophams three year old, 52.47 seemed destined to stay high up on the shelf but Dighton swept it away, clocking 51:41 on a near perfect morning in Dorset.
Danny Axford (Artic Tacx RT) was also inside the old mark with 52:20 but could not match the sheer effort of Dighton. Gregg Parker (VC ST Raphael/Waites Contracts), 53.39, was two minutes quicker than his winning time of twelve months ago but that was only good enough for third place. Parker had beaten the Primera man at Thruxton the week before but carries a bit too much muscle for the rolling course and was happy with his ride.
Newcomer Wayne Pitman (Poole Wh) took a few scalps and looked strong in fourth place. Dave Dent (Wightlink/Offshore RT) has been plundering mainland races for a good few years but he returned across the water to the Isle of Wight in 6th place after his first race of the year. The P427 Badbury Rings course is described as “sporting” but despite the constant up & down, there are plenty of opportunities to "get down on the skis” and with only a light south easterly breeze few were complaining. Disappointingly on this pleasant spring morning, seven riders were DNS, deciding not to help the Wessex Road Club celebrate their 90th anniversary, it was their loss!

Bournemouth Track League 2014, Not Long to Wait!

The re-branded Bournemouth Track League kicks off at 19.00 on Friday May 2nd and the 2014 edition is shaping up to be the best yet! The track league, now in its third year, will include individually sponsored, Youth, A & B leagues and for the first time a ladies only league. There will also be a team league with the top three riders qualifying. Halosports, run by former Pro Harry Lodge, are providing leaders jerseys for each league, which will be worn by the current leaders on the night. Halosports will also provide an overall winners jersey at the end of the season. The Bournemouth Track league is open to all accredited riders and fast track accreditation is available to experienced “trackies”. Race programmes will follow a similar format to previous years but there are plans to include a handicap scratch event, Kierin racing and “course de primes” to liven things up! There are also plans for pursuit events. As in previous years, sign on will open at 18.00hrs and the track has a limit of 28 riders per race. The wet and miserable winter is behind us and excitement is building with the thought of fast , competitive racing on warm summer evenings Don’t miss the Bournemouth Track League!

Gregg Parker (VC ST Raphael/Waites Contracts) wins the Antelope RT 10 at a windy Thruxton Motor circuit.
“The race went really well apart from a warm up crash when my rollers collapsed! I have made quite a few changes to equipment in the last few weeks so didn't really know how those would work out but bike felt really good and the windy conditions suited me.” commented Parker
