Exeter Wheelers, Rockbeare Womens Road Race

Exeter Wheelers invite you to join us for an exciting new women’s road race on 15th September 2013. This 80 km road race is the finale to the SW Women’s Race Series, a series set up with the aim to encourage more women to try racing and to boost attendance at races in the region. With a cracking course and a total prize fund over £500 we hope we can tempt you down here to join in the fun!

Exeter Wheelers Rockbeare - a NEW Road Race

The course will consist of 7 laps of an 11km undulating loop. There will be a men’s 3/4 supporting race in the morning on the same course. The start/finish is located at the top of a steady drag, on a straight flat section of road. From the start riders climb a short sharp hill to join the B3180 before a fast decent down the old A30. From the old A30 the course then hangs a left into the country roads, passing through Rockbeare and Marsh Green villages before starting the main accent to the finish line.

We have chosen this course as we believe it offers the opportunity for some exciting racing, with the chance for riders to get away or a bunch finish equally matched. To encourage exciting racing Nimbleworks web and mobile app developers will be offering a series of primes, with cash prizes for intermediate laps.

We want to make it worth your while to travel to join us, so in addition to the exciting racing on offer Ivan Jordan Architect has chipped in a substantial prize fund so that we can offer £100 cash prize to the race winner. Cash prizes will be up for grabs to at least the top 5 placed riders. On top of this we will also have a beautiful bouquet of seasonal, locally grown flowers, 3 Chefs Garnish Boxes full of stunning edible flowers and herbs, and 3 sets of R3, R2 and R1 Bontranger tyres all from SW Women’s Race Series Sponsors Greens of Devon and the Bike Shed.

As if this wasn’t enough, there will also be some amazing home made cakes on offer; from a Devon take on Hillingdon Banana Flapjack to something truly Devon; Cream Tea…(recovery clotted cream- sure, why not?!). Hopefully all of this will be sufficient to sustain you for the main race prize giving which will be shortly followed by the SW Women’s Race Series overall prize giving.

We hope you can join us for what is hoped will be the first of many more women’s road races in the years to come. To enter go to British Cycling here.

Practicalities and getting there;

Rockbeare village is just a short hop from Junction 29 of the M5. The race HQ is in the Village hall with toilet facilities and ample car parking. The course isn’t far from town, and is an easy ride from the mainline station if you choose to get the train down. We can provide a route map using the city’s cycle route network that avoids the M5/A30 interchange.
