BRAMSHAW’S Julia Shaw won her seventh consecutive National 10-mile time trial championship in Norfolk on Saturday writes Bob Jolliffe...........
Shaw, who rides in drag2zero colours, clocked a rapid 22min 19secs to beat Rebecca Slack (Look Mum No Hands) by 16 seconds. Hannah Barnes (MG Maxifuel Pro Cycling) took third with 22-56.
Following an ace ride in New Forest CC’s club 10 at Ringwood earlier in the week, Totton’s Stephen Whitewick (VeloRefined Aerosmiths) was unlucky to puncture in the men’s championship event which was won by Michael Hutchinson for the 10th time in 19min 20sec.
Silver went to Shaw’s teammate Matthew Bottrill with 19-27 while Hutchinson’s In Gear Quick Vit Trainsharp teammate Douglas Davey took bronze with 19-36.
Gilfillan wins Forest 32
Course record-holder Whitewick was a non-starter in New Forest Cycling Club’s annual Round the Forest 32-mile time trial on Sunday, but his VeloRefined colleague James Gilfillan took the honours instead with a time of 1-14-12.
Poole Wheeler Gary Dighton took second with 1-16-15 from CC Weymouth’s Greg Parker (1-18-02).
The Waterside’s Ray Claridge (GA Cycles) claimed fourth with 1-19-37, which was one second faster than his equivalent ride last year.
New Forest CC’s top finisher was Stuart Peckham with 1-25-36 for 13th place.

Whitewick on form in build-up to Nat 10
Whitewick was in sparkling form when he won New Forest CC’s 10 on the “Rumble Strip”, the roughly surfaced Ringwood-Sopley road, in a cracking 20-54.
His nearest rival on a good evening which saw several “personals” and “season’s bests” was New Milton’s Tony Green (GA Cycles) with 22-19.
Claridge was third overall with 22-39 while New Forest CC’s own ace Ben Boardman crept under 23 minutes for the first time this season with 22-57 for fourth overall and 10 points in division one of the home club’s league table.
GA Cycles’ boss Gary Allan was fifth with 23-01 and New Forest’s James Bannister was back on form with 23-13 for sixth.

Topham wins Hounslow 100, again
Poole-based Adam Topham won the Hounslow and District Wheelers’ 100 on roads between Farnham and Alton on Sunday for the second consecutive year with a time of 3-41-41.
