New Forest CC get the Wiggo Effect!
THE “Wiggo Effect” has led to an upsurge of interest in cycle racing across the UK from people of all ages and now New Forest Cycling Club wants to help youngsters get out on the road. Writes Bob Jolliffe………………..
Bradley Wiggins’ Tour de France and Olympic successes have been the spur for many adults dusting off old bikes or buying new ones in a bid to get pedalling and boost fitness.
Now, to cater for the number of school-agers who have contacted the club, New Forest Cycling Club is to stage regular Sunday morning rides of about 30 miles, and wants to extend the invitation to other young would-be Bradleys, Cavs or Chris Hoys.
Led by Patrick Walters, the two to two-and-a-half-hour rides which are designed for those aged 13 to 18 years, will start at 10am from Brockenhurst either once or twice a month depending on the level of interest.
Club secretary Peter Weaver said the ride will follow the same circular route each time and “parents and older siblings are very welcome to join in”.
The club is also in the process of setting up Go-Ride events for less confident riders.
