Bob Jolliffe writes……RINGWOOD top triathlete James Gilfillan was the worthy winner of Reading Cycling Club’s annual Clive Pugh Memorial 25-mile time trial at Bentley on Sunday.Gilfillan punctured while warming up on his turbo trainer but had time in hand to make the change before heading to the start.Once on the course he was riding fluently and lost no time in catching his minute-man, New Forest CC’s Bob Jolliffe. Gilfillan’s aim was to beat his Contre la Montre veteran teammate Stephen Whitewick. However, being midway through a block of training for the upcoming National Time Trial Championship, the Totton veteran pulled out of the event leaving the way open to Gilfillan to win in a sparkling 52min 8sec on a blowy morning.Second place went to A3CRG’s Sebastian Ader with 53-56 and Newbury RC’s Ian Greenstreet was third with 54-13.Sotonia CC’s Gawain Young (59-18), Jonathan Legg (1-02-10) and Colin Crocker (1-04-56) won the second team award. Other local times: Stephen Wood (Antelope RT) 1-00-03, Bob Jolliffe 1-14-48, Chris Summers (Sotonia) 1-14-56.Second claim New Forest CC member Martin Beale (VC St Raphael) punctured at about 20 miles and retired.
