Bournemouth Arrow Club 10

LOCK CRACKS 22 MINUTES TO WIN ARROW 10, Bob Jolliffe reports......
PEDALLING 800 gruelling kilometres in the seven-day Tour Transalp Group Sportif stood New Forest Cycling Club’s Gary Lock in good stead when he clocked a personal best 21-54 to win Bournemouth Arrow CC’s latest evening 10-miler.With those hard miles in his legs riding with Team de Lux during the last week of June, Lock hacked 27 seconds off his previous best to beat Southampton-based GA Cycles’ Simon Barnes into second place by a full minute and two seconds.Barnes’ teammates Ray Claridge and Gary Allan took the next two places with times of 23-07 and 23-11.Warm weather and little wind on the Thursday, after the rain that led to the cancellation of New Forest CC’s 25 two evenings earlier, produced a crop of PBs for New Forest CC riders.Just a whisker away from 25mph, Stuart Peckham clocked a PB 24-01 for ninth, one place behind clubmate Colin Humm (23-50) who, after feeling somewhat jaded, is getting back into his stride after taking a few weeks rest.Veteran duathlete champ Howard Doe celebrated knocking six seconds off his previous best, reducing it to 24-06 for 10th.Steve Roberts scrubbed 45 seconds from his best to 24-59 for 15th and Richard Rajski was another New Forest member who went home happy after registering a 25sec improvement to 25-20 for 17th.Other times (Bournemouth Arrow riders unless stated): Steve Groome (Bournemouth Jubilee Whrs) 23-15, Craig Gardiner (Salisbury Tri Club) 23-35, Kevin King (Sotonia CC) 23-43, Colin Yeates (Sotonia) 24-15, John Mariner (BJW) 24-42, Richard Blake (GA Cycles) 24-47, Rob Ellis (VC St Raphael/second claim NFCC) 24-54, Martin Shield 25-18, Rob Wickham (Poole Whrs) 25-25, Tony Strickland 25-38, Gary Plumb (NFCC) 26-10, Julian Sheppard (Sotonia) 26-49, Michael Bird (private trial) 26-52, Ian Hayden 27-38, Adrian Watkins 28-06, Trevor Fenwick (BJW) 28-48, Pat Lockyer 29-36, Ian Taylor 30-09, Richard Page 30-10, Bob Jolliffe 30-16.Poole Wheelers’ top pairing of Gary Dighton and Paul Jones rode a two-up trial and clocked 20-54.
