Ellie Gilham
Ellie Gilham rounded off a packed week of racing on Saturday with a win in the Omega 2 stage race at Portsmouth. In some of the windiest conditions possible Ellie won the mornings time trial by 2 seconds and then in the afternoons crit, where the women rode with the 3rd cat men, Ellie stayed in the bunch lapping all the other women at least twice to take the overall victory. The week had started the previous Sunday in Lancaster with the Carpenwray road race covering 53miles over some very hilly terrain. The race was won by Sarah Storey with Ellie finishing 17th. This was followed on Tuesday with a ride in the Johnson Health Tec crit, part of the Halfords Tour series held in Woking. Ellie’s team VC St Raphael went into the race placed 3rd overall and fighting hard to maintain their lead over the girls from Mule Bar. The race went well with her team just maintaining their lead. Ellie worked hard in a chasing group gaining valuable experience of such a highly technical course as a first year junior that hopefully will be put to good use next year.Ellie has now started her preparation for the National Track Championships in August.
