New Forest Boxing Day 10 Cancelled
Lack of entries for New Forest Cycling Club’s Boxing Day 10 on the Ringwood-Sopley course (p311) has led to the event being cancelled. The number of people signing up to ride the open 10 has gradually been dwindling in recent years. Last Christmas there were 40 entries, but this year the number had nosedived to 13 and after serious discussions between former event secretary Roger Bacon, club secretary Peter Weaver and this year’s organiser Maggie Bracher, the sad decision was made to cancel the event. Last year the race went ahead despite temperatures of minus 8, winner Xavier Disley (Birmingham Uni) clocked a speedy 22.58 to win the event. Competitors often rode in fancy dress and the prize list was seasonal, which mean't Booze & Chocolates. Despite the season of goodwill, local "Pothunters" were usually out in force and competition was always keen. Further discussions will have to take place at committee level to decide whether to run it again on Boxing Day 2012.
Last weeks Manchester & District TTA Christmas 10 attracted 49 solo, 28 Fancy Dress,8 Tandem & 2 Tandem Fancy Dress entries.

Gutted, my aim was not to do a decent time, but get out of the house on Boxing Day for a few hours! Anyone else like to come out for a ride on that day starting from Ringwood? Chris Hughes, christopherhughes@sky.com
