Kingston Hill Climb

Taking his third victory in a row, Simon McLaughlin (BJW) won the Kingston Hill Climb and looks set claim the individaul title in the inter-club competition. McLauhglin looked very smooth as he sped up the short, hairpin climb. In contrast, others struggled to find the right gear that would get them to the summit. The warm autumn sunshine made it enjoyable for those watching but a slight headwind, half way up did not help the riders. Although 9 secs outside the record for the hill, McLaughlin clocked 2:07.9 to finish a comfortable 7 seconds ahead of James Horton (unatt). Andrew Graham (BJW) took 3rd for the second week running with 2:15.

In the all important team competition, the Jubilee responded well to the challenge thrown down by CC Weymouth.

Packing the field with 16 of the 39 starters, the promoting club scored enough points to make the final showdown on Whiteways an exciting prospect. The Poole Wheelers also put up a fight despite most of their riders having ridden the Rudy Project TT the day before.

With open hill climb events struggling to attract 15 or more entrants, this local competition is proving to be a real success. Both the Portland and Creech events were well organised and well attended. The crowd of riders waiting to sign on outside the Scott Arms at the top of the hill was a pleasure to see.

The enthusiastic encouragement of the spectators added to the atmosphere and surely helped the riders through the pain!
