Local Cycling News
Daniel Lloyd (Garmin -Cervelo) rode for England at the Olympic test event and gave the course the thumbs up. The Olympic Road Race starts in central London before heading out to Surrey and the famous climb of Box Hill. Professional cyclist Lloyd, who lives in Queens Park, Bournemouth, was full of praise for this dress rehearsal event, "I really enjoyed it, closed roads, very well organised, huge numbers of spectators along the side of the road and the race went perfectly to plan for us. We only did two climbs of Box Hill, which was not enough to split the bunch but the 9 climbs in the Olympics will be a different story, we all realise that. Tour De France, green jersey winner Mark Cavendish, riding for Great Britain, won the test event, sprinting to victory on the Mall, outside Buckingham Palace. Daniel lived in Surrey for a while and the Olympic Road Race course covers lots of his old training routes.
Marc & Nicky Barfoot (UTAG-YAMAHA) recorded 25.42, for an 8 second winning margin in the annual Ladies two-up 10 mile time trial.
On the Ringwood - Sopley course the Barfoots proved too strong for Southampton R C pair, Jo Hayley & Ian Woodhouse.
Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers Larraine & Colin White rode smoothly to third place with 26.00.
Meanwhile, over in Hampshire, Poole Wheelers veteran, Terry Icke rode a rapid 54. 40 for 12th place in the AC3RG 25 TT, team mate Richard Davidson, 57 .53 & Nick Spencer (BJW) 57.59 were also in action.
New Forest based Julia Shaw (Drag2Zero) broke National competition record for 25 miles. Riding in South Wales, Shaw took 1 min 49 secs off the old record with a storming 50.01 ride, almost 30 MPH.
The National Championships in early September followed by the World Championships in Denmark, two weeks later, are the next targets for Shaw.

A paralympic 2012 simulation camp in Bath followed by a dash across to Liege in Belgium for a P1 event has kept me busy this week. A couple of crashes in training (not me) has also seen me visit A&E in both cities.
